Please take the time to read these policies and procedures carefully as it will save you time and money.
Guidance, walk-through and payment
The customer or his representative must be present during the move at all times for guidance. It is the customer’s responsibility to do a final “walk-through” of the premises to ensure we have taken everything. Our time runs continuously until all tools and equipment are back in the truck and payment is completed. Having your cash or check ready will save you time.
Loading/Unloading
If Upscale Movers is only providing loading or unloading services, we are not responsible for any damages, which may occur in transporting the furniture and is released of all liability after loading the truck prior to unloading. We are only responsible for items in our immediate care, custody and control.
Payment/Pricing for local moves and deliveries
For local moves and deliveries, you must pay in full at the day of job. Payment for deliveries is Cash on Delivery or Check on Delivery. Payment is do in full on receipt of invoice immediately upon completion of job/move. We charge $62.50/per man per hour. You will be charged for driving/traveling time on all moves/deliveries, as well as materials and for costs of truck(s).
Parking arrangements
Customer is responsible for requesting moving permits if ones may be required. We can only recommend getting permits for all moves as they park the moving truck as close as possible to your doorway. Because you are familiar with the parking situation on your street, you must decide if you need one, or if you can manage parking on your own. In most cases we require 35-40 feet to park the truck. Please get moving permits if you think movers may have trouble parking at your address. If there is nowhere to park at the time of mover’s arrival, the crew will start your moving clock while they will be searching for parking. Driver reserves the right to park anywhere at his discretion to better perform services, even if it is illegal and/or he has to double-park. Customer agrees to pay any parking fees or tickets assessed to the carrier for any vehicle under hire by the customer at the time of the charge.
Damages and claims
Any damage claims must be submitted in writing to our Operations Manager. Our company standards do assume a full inspection of furniture by both our movers and customers. However the final inspection is the responsibility of the customer. All of our customers sign a bill of lading and/or final inspection job completion form upon completion of a move. It reads “Upscale Movers completed Job/project in a satisfactory manner with all objectives met and all goods received in good condition, except as noted”. For any insurance company this document is critical in noting charges the same day, to ensure the damage occurred that day and that coverage could be provided. Unless payment is made in full as is due we are not required to answer or process a claim. Do not assume you may deduct the money from the final bill to compensate yourself in the event of damage. This is ILLEGAL.
Moving Insurance and Valuation
It is important to understand how much the movers are responsible for any loss or damage. The minimum coverage for moving companies in Connecticut required by law is $0.60 per pound per article up to $10.000 (it's included in the rate given) and it is called carrier liability insurance. If an item is lost or damaged, you would receive $0.60 per pound per damaged item. For instance, if an item is damaged during the move, an item that you bought for $200.00 and it weighed 100 pounds, you would only get $60.00 as compensation. Extra coverage is optional that you can consider purchasing. Other options to consider would be your homeowner's policy and/or your own insurance policy.
Upscale Movers will not automatically pay for damage. It must be clearly shown that the mover was responsible. Items in boxes not packed by the movers are not covered by our insurance. Our movers are not responsible for any electronic item that does not function after the move unless there is clear evidence that the item was not handled properly during the move. Even if you see damage to items at the time of the move, you are legally responsible to pay the full amount for the move.
